mt crawford avenue project gets serious
edited by mousie 7/22/2007:
now i get it. the closed street is mt crawford avenue right there at wachovia bank. you cant go through there. but you can detour around on liberty street. actually this project has caused less disruption so far than i thought it would. i notice that vdot is projecting a completion date of october 31.

Is that just the northbound Main Street traffic that gets detoured onto Liberty street? and then rejoins Main Street at Wachovia Bank? This may get complicated.

I saw today what Sergio and Grand View Farm Supply were complaining of months ago in reference to the closing of Ashby St. Grand View had a delivery truck that could not gain access to the business and stopped in middle of Main St. in front of the business to deliver. What a mess.
Thank you Town of Bridgewater for closing a street that didn’t have much traffic entering onto Main St. anyway. Maybe all of the businesses should move to Dayton. Is that what Bridgewater wants?

I completely agree with you tbone. There was very, very little traffic coming onto Main Street from Ashby St. Closing the access will cause a lot of hardship, not only for Grand View and Sergios, but Main St. traffic as well. Like you said, trucks must now stop on main street in order to deliver to these 2 businesses. I “somewhat” understand the idea of putting a stop light at this intersection (in my opinion, stop lights are over used), but why close Ashby St.? I’m only 26 years old, but I remember when B’water only had 2 stoplights. The one at the intersection of Quarles (which Quarles nor Hardees was there. Hardees is now on the old parking lot for Bridgewater Elementary school) and the one up at the intersection of the old Woody’s restaurant. Then, they put the one up at Marshalls to help traffic coming off Oakwood. Now, another is going up there at the old 7 Eleven building. Before long, Bwater will have a light at each intersection on main street.

I went through on Wed. and again saw a tractor-trailer driver attempting to make a delivery. He had the truck parked in the center lane of Main St… there was no where else to stop.
I went back through a few minutes later and the road was clear, however the PD had the truck driver on Green St. and they were speaking with a Grand View guy. I’m not sure what was worked out, but the Town should have made some arrangements prior to this since they deemed it necessary in closing Ashby St.
