New “newspaper” for the Burg?
So the Harrisonburg Times is going to become a new newspaper, or media source, or something. As a libertarian, I wish them well. Our First Amendment means that anyone is entitled to freedom of expression, including the Friendly City’s mayor and associates.
I hope they’ll be able to overcome the tendency for a government-friendly publication to be dull, dull, dull. Perhaps actually trying to do news coverage will give them a little humility, too. If you look at their first post, you’ll find that Harrisonburg Times feels itself worthy not only to praise local media outlets such as the DNR, TV3 and WSVA, but also to tell us all what’s wrong with them. Who appointed them to be the local media critic? Why, the mayor, of course.

I predict two things……first the Mayor’s “newspaper” will be a flash in the pan. Secondly, while it lasts, it will be ultra liberal in an attempt offset the DNR’s ultra conservatism. I have wondered for a long time, does the mayor have a real job?
His venture is probably a conflict of interest but I’ll someone else make that decision.

something worth remembering. it takes a lot of effort to run a news operation. oh it is easy enough to get people to write opinion pieces. but who will attend the planning commission on a cold night in november. and keep doing that month after month with little or no pay.
