New McDonald’s for Exit 240
A building permit has been issued for a new McDonald’s restaurant at I-81 Exit 240 (995 Friedens Church Rd.). The face amount on the permit is $350,000 and the square footage is 4,000.

What is it about Olive Garden? It’s JUST an Italian restaurant. We’ve got loads of Italian dining choices in the area, including Francesco’s, New York Flying Pizza and Sergio’s. For what it’s worth, I know someone who took two high-priced Philadelphia lawyers (in the area on business) to Francesco’s and the lawyers had high praise for the food. Their relationship to the case didn’t give them any particular reason to praise or diss the food, either. So while I’d like to see an Olive Garden, I don’t feel at all deprived in the absence of an Olive Garden.

As a huge fan of Olive Garden myself, I can only give my opinion on the subject. Olive Garden is more focused on italian cuisine rather than just pizza. The italian restaurants you listed do serve things like lasanga and spagehetti, but their main focus is pizza and subs. I prefer Olive Garden to all of these because they offer italian dinners that explore all different facets of italian food. Plus, their salad and breadsticks are AWESOME!!! We could make a meal on those alone. Even though I understand the popularity of places such as McDonalds, I think there are way too many. I would much rather see a Taco Bell in that location. There are no Taco Bell’s south of Harrisonburg until you hit Staunton. I think it would have done well.
I had heard that the empty lot across the street from Lowe’s on Linda Lane was to be an Olive Garden. However, construction has stopped there and I’m not sure what it is now. I continue to wish that an Olive Garden comes to either Hburg or Staunton. We currently drive to Lynchburg, Roanoke, or Winchester to go there now. I really don’t understand what is keeping it from coming to Hburg….

Any word on what else is going in at exit 240? I know the original reports said Mcd’s, Denny’s, gas station and possibly a bank, but that was over two years ago…

An interesting discussion on the merits of fast food shops.. While a fan of Olive Garden which does have a lighter menu than Francesco’s, it is about as Italian as Taco Bell is Mexican. Denny’s, Taco Bell, Micky D’s, etc. are about convenience, not about food.
It is strange that Olive Garden ( a corporate sister to Red Lobster) doesn’t feel the demographics are proper in Harrisonburg. Wonder what Winchester has that we don’t? Olive Garden rumors have been around for years.

I have to disagree about Olive Garden being a sub-par italian restaurant. I have visited other italian restaurants and have yet to find one that serves as many dishes as Olive Garden. I rank them along with Applebees and Texas Steakhouse.
Mousie, my mother told me that she had heard on WSVA that a permit was granted to Olive Garden to build on East Market St. in front of Kohl’s. I’m not sure where exactly, but it said it would be close to Reb Lobster (which makes sense). They even had a scheduled start date of September (building it that is…). I have heard numerous rumors before also about Olive Garden, but this one sounds legit. I’ve always thought Hburg would be a good fit for Olive Garden. I can’t wait!!!!!
