Well, the server has again swallowed up all the previous posts on "Bridgewater Buzz." Seems as if it "just happens," as soon as the number of posts gets too large. I'll start the discussion web again and see if I can recover the posts so that older ones can be viewed. Meanwhile, thanks for posting on "Bridgewater Buzz."

I understand, mousie, but it is an Interstate exit. What do you expect, a free park? That's an ideal place for motels and restaurants. When people come to Bridgewater to visit or for college events, they have to sleep on a floor somewhere or go to Harrisonburg. This is going to be good for the community.

I, too, don't like the idea of paving over prime farmland. If it has to be done, which it does, I prefer they do it at the interstate. I also prefer hotels and shops to a massive truck stop. Too bad it isn't within the town limits where they'd have to conform to B'water town ample "green laws."

Hello My Grandmother and her family lived in Bridgewater all thier lives. She passed away in the early 1990's for reasons unknown her house was sold to Hardee's (Main Street) and sold at auction all her belongings. If anyone in the Bridgewater area purchased any furniture, etc and would be willing to sell it, it would be of great intrest to me. Her Name was Jesse Swecker daughter of Mary Siple Simpson and sister of Raymond (Polly) Simpson. Her home was where the Hardee's now stands. Thank you so much! While it's not in Bridgewater, most of us travel it every once in a while. I was wondering if anyone knew the story behind the paving problems on I-81 from the 247-244 mile markers in the south bound lane. The driving lane is approx. 2" higher than the passing lane. It has been that way since the end of July/beginning of August. The conditions are not acceptable. It creates a dangerous situation... be careful!

OK, those scooters that the young folks are allowed to ride without helmets are really getting to me. First, they are capable of 30 or so mph. Second, several of the town youth have not learned to back off the throttle and drift to the right allowing traffic to pass. Third, at the intersection of High St. and Grove St. a month ago, one of the town youth took a turn too fast and too wide. If I had been twenty feet closer to that intersection, I may not have avoided him. I'm pretty sure this youngster went home to change his pants based on the look in his eyes as we avoided a head-on collision between scooter and full sized pick-up. Folks, please be careful on our streets! Defensive driving should hold our full attention at all times. I had a close call with this scooter. They seem to appear from thin air.

yes i agree. kids will be kids and so i dont mind if they ride in the streets and have fun even if that sometimes slows me down. but it would be tragic if someone got hurt or killed and im afraid it will happen if the kids on scooters arent more careful.

The scooters are worse than bikes because on bicycles, kids have a higher profile and you're more likely to see them. R. is right -- the scooters can appear from nowhere. I think the kids ought to be required to wear helmets if they're riding scooters. (Is that the law, and just not enforced, or are they exempt?)

O.K... I can't prove it, but I believe that if the vandals that have frequented some areas of the town were caught, we would find they were on scooters. They are lower profile and that makes them perfect to sneak around. Now, I am not suggesting that everyone that rides a scooter in town is a vandal. I am just saying that I think some of the riders fit that crowd. Just my 2 cents.

Right you are, Mousie. These low-power stations don't broadcast with enough power to be received very well at all -- just well enough that the local cable system has to carry their signal under the "must-carry" rules. The idea would be for the new Channel 58 to serve just enough people with an over-the-air signal that they could go to Adelphia locally and say, "put us on." Under existing rules, if they didn't ask for any money, Adelphia would have to comply. But don't look for any great new programming from the new channel.

If you charge for the course people will expect it to actually be maintained (not like it is now). What are the details on how much the person overseeing the course would be paid? Will this be a full time employee? Right now the course is a great place to go on any nice afternoon and play a quick nine holes. I have never played at a "real" course, but have played the B'water par three several times.

The section on a proposed Rail-Trail along the North River from Bridgewater to Stokesville has been on this website for years. Does anyone know if any progress is being made on this proposal? I think it's a great idea. We saw it on the website and moved here 2 years ago, hoping that it would eventually happen. (We would also like to help in any way.) But if there is no progress being made, it should really be removed from this website because it is misleading. (I tried calling the phone number listed on the website to offer our help but it is now unlisted!) Thanks for any information.

Does anyone know if those of us who use that park can "give our two cents" to the person choosing the equipment? Who is that person(s)? this from vartv.com: Tara Brown who was the primary anchor at Gray Television's WHSV (3/ABC) Harrisonburg was moved to sister WVAW-LP (16/ABC) Charlottesville to be that station's first ND (News Director) and anchor the new station's newscasts. It didn't end up that way. Instead, Ric Barrick, the ND for sister "CBS19" WCAV Charlottesville was named to the position. Brown ended up moving back to WHSV. Now, the station has told her is she's no longer needed. She's out... bio's off the website and her desk is cleaned.....

Thought I would provide some insight on the Tara Brown discussion. It's my understanding that Brown "changed her mind" about the Charlottesville move and had worn out her welcome at the home base in H'burg leading to her departure. I also understand that TV-3 will soon be losing one of its morning anchors (the good one) and has not yet offered contract renewal to Joe Downs.

Sounds to me that Tara Brown got the shaft. Unfortunately for us who watch the WHSV-TV3 news @ 6 o'clock, we now are stuck w/ Jamie Curott.

Isn't wine and beer enough? Why mixed drinks also? I understand this business about "attracting more restaurants," but is that the kind of restaurant we want to attract? There are plenty of places where you can get a drink, but do we want Bridgewater to be like all of them?

HEY! NOV. 2, GET OUT AND VOTE!!! I can see why the NRG would want to be able to serve mixed drinks. The profit margin is very good and would help their bottom line. However, if they continue to serve good food, along with wine and beer, they should be able to do a very nice business in our small town. After all, Woody's operated several decades with (in my opinion) no-frills food. I will not support the liquor-by-the-drink item on the ballot.

i didnt support that either. i had hoped the grill would develop its wine list. attract the fine-food crowd instead of the other crowd. but now that it passed im sure theyll do a good job with the liquor license. hope they will anyway.

wine, beer, mixed drinks.. they are all the same in my book.. They eat and they drink ... who drives... We have had dinner there many times and both adults are drinking while eating.. and not just one glass of wine or beer.. so I don't see the big deal.. those that drink will drink and those that don't won't.

Anyone notice the floodlight on the dam during the evening at Wildwood? It looks pretty cool. Check it out for yourself.

Anyone been to Red Apple lately? We went there recently to get the buffet, but they only offer it after 6:00PM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We happened to drop in at 5:30 on a Wednesday evening. Also I noticed they have switched to paper plates and plastic utensils. I was not impressed by the change. After talking with a friend, I went to the VDH website and searched "restaurant inspections". This made for some interesting reading, and not only about Red Apple either.

Sorry to hear about the Red Apple, the beef their was always fantastic as were the egg rolls. I stopped looking at the VDH inspections, I wouldn't be able to eat anywhere in the valley. Was recently very disappointed in the inspetion report for Bravo in Harrisonburg (one of my favorites).

I hear ya, Bravo was one of our favorites too! My friend, the one who told me about the inspections that could be viewed on the web, told the folks at Bravo to take the slack out of the rope and his family would be glad to give them his business. Bravo assured him that they had corrected the problems. He assured them that he would continue to check the inspections online and if all looks good, he will be a return customer. He thinks they will do better. Time will tell.

I hope the new VPG Co-op gets off to a good start. Nothing but kudos for all the folks who worked their tails off to make this happen. I plan to buy at least two or three turkeys in 2005 (other than Thanksgiving), that have the VPGC label. Hope many others will do the same. Our local economy will benefit if this endeavor succeeds.

I'm told you can't purchase the co-op turkey. The co-op sells "bulk" turkey meat to other companies that use it for the kind of stuff you'll find in the freezer section...such as Sarah Lee or other large companies. I'm really not sure what the general public can do to support the co-op. Any suggestions from someone in the biz?
